Kadavu is renowned for its exceptional diving along the 30 km long Astrolabe Reef and for adventure tourism. The island is volcanic, extremely rugged in places, and covered in rainforest. This makes it rich to explore with excellent treks to waterfalls and vistas and a wealth of tropical flora and wildlife including musk parrots and other rare birds. On the downside, there are few roads on the island and getting around the rugged coastline by boat can be inconvenient and somewhat expensive. Accommodation in the Southern Islands Getting There and Around Pacific Sun has daily flights from Nadi and Suva to the airstrip at Vunisea on Kadavu. A passenger ferry leaves Suva Harbour for Ono and the east tip of Kadavu twice a week. Once on Kadavu it is quite difficult to move about other than by foot or fishing boat as there is no public transport and few roads. |
